Baker Mayfield Has Blunt Response to Texas Longhorns Players Disrespecting His Jersey

The Texas Longhorns were victorious in Saturday's Red River Rivalry game, as they departed Dallas with a 34-3 win and the iconic golden hat.

However, they didn't leave Dallas silently. They made sure to let Oklahoma and their fans know that they remembered everything that was said or done last season. Specifically, the shirts that Danny Stutsman made after Oklahoma's win which read, "Oklahoma Only Fears God, Texas Fears Oklahoma."

In response to Stutsman's shirts, a handful of Longhorns celebrated by blasting the cannon through a Baker Mayfield jersey and also planting the team's flag on the jersey at midfield. It was obviously meant as a slight to Oklahoma and Mayfield, who is typically quite vocal during this rivalry, but instead, it ended up allowing Mayfield to flash his success against Texas.

After the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' Week 6 win over the New Orleans Saints, Mayfield was asked about the antics and revealed it shows that he lives rent-free in the heads of Texas.

"Just a kid from Austin, Texas that went to Oklahoma, won his last two Red River games, and being rent-free in their heads for almost a decade," Mayfield told Jenna Laine of ESPN.

The flag planting was obviously inspired by Mayfield doing it in 2017 after he led No. 5 Oklahoma to win over No. 2 Ohio State. However, why Anthony Hill Jr. and Barryn Sorrell felt the need to use his jersey is a bit of a head-scratcher.

Seems like it would have made more sense to do the same things to one of the shirts that Stutsman made. Regardless, the Longhorns won and are now turning their attention to their Week 8 meeting with the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs.
