The internet doesn’t miss a thing. That is a true statement. Many teams hadn’t even played their first game of the 2024 NBA preseason when a Chet Holmgren moment went viral on social media.

Expectations are high for Holmgren and the Oklahoma City Thunder this season. After the offseason they had, fans are expecting this sudden juggernaut to be flawless on and off the court.

No. 7 is one of the league’s brightest young stars and aims to take another several steps up the ladder and help his team take off into championship mode. However, many were alarmed after watching a clip of him shooting warm-up 3-pointers before OKC’s preseason opener against the San Antonio Spurs.

J-Will puts fans’ stress at ease

The Gonzaga product showed off an immense two-way profile as a rookie. Defensively, he was a shot-blocking stalwart — finishing second in the NBA in that department — and proving that he has the tools to be a perennial Defensive Player of the Year candidate.

On the other side of the ball, Chet showed few flaws, and one of the standout aspects of his game appeared to be his 3-point shot. On over four attempts per game last season, the 22-year-old sank 37.0%, often showcasing a pretty follow-through for a 7-footer.

That is why some fans were baffled when they watched the big man shoot perimeter shots during pregame last Monday.

Holmgren’s awkward-looking release had many covering their eyes. But, no, his shot is not “broken,” as the internet has said. Thunder forward Jaylin Williams commented on the video and cleared the air.

"it’s not his actual jumper y’all, it’s a hand placement and arc drill type thing," asserted J-Will.

Fortunately, Chet didn’t get hit with some random offseason shooting bug; it was just a drill. Let’s hope the funky-form shooting will pay off this season, as the rising Thunder star hopes to continue marching toward superstardom.
