The Texas Longhorns are currently enjoying an undefeated season in college football, but the college basketball season is also right around the corner. According to the Preseason AP Top 25, the Longhorns should expect to have a top team this fall as they ranked No. 19 in the poll.

Texas is one of nine SEC teams in the season's first rankings, joining No. 2 Alabama, No. 11 Auburn, No. 12 Tennessee, No. 13 Texas A&M, No. 16 Arkansas, No. 21 Florida, No. 23 Kentucky, and No. 24 Ole Miss.

Guard Max Abmas and forward Dylan Disu, the two leaders of last year's team, are no longer in Austin. However, thanks to some crucial offseason additions, this roster profiles as highly talented.

Head coach Rodney Terry landed guard Jordan Pope and forwards Tramon Mark and Arthur Kaluma in the transfer portal. In addition, Julian Larry and Jayson Kent both transferred from Indiana State to provide significant depth.

The Longhorns' upside this season will likely be determined by five-star Tre Johnson, who ranked as the sixth overall prospect in the 2024 class, per 247Sports . The hype surrounding Johnson is sky-high, and he's a projected lottery pick in the 2025 NBA Draft.

Texas opens its basketball season on November 4 with a high-profile matchup against Ohio State at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
