Notre Dame Makes Heartbreaking Injury Announcement for Star Player

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are expected to be a College Football Playoffs-level squad this season. With the new 12-team format, they should be able to earn one of the seven at-large bids.

The program has a long-standing tradition of acquiring some of the best talent across the nation. However, this season, they've been dealing with quite the injury bug. Still, they've posted a 5-1 record this season.

Notre Dame's lone loss on the season has come to North Illinois in one of the biggest upsets of the season. Still, they've been able to bounce back and project to finish the rest of their schedule out strongly.

As an independent program, the Fighting Irish have to have an incredible regular season to be ranked high enough to earn an at-large bid. With the five highest-ranked conference champions earning a big, the Fighting Irish are one step behind and the teams who make the playoffs could be interesting.

The program got bad news on Monday, though, as head coach Marcus Freeman announced that star cornerback Benjamin Morrison will be out for the remainder of the team's season.

Morrison suffered a hip injury on Saturday as the squad defeated Stanford in a blowout 49-7 victory. The injury will require surgery, which is why he will miss the rest of the team's season.

This injury and missing the rest of the season likely means Morrison has suited up in a Notre Dame jersey for the final time of his career. He's more than likely heading to the NFL as he's projected to be a first-round selection. He's certainly Notre Dame's best defender.
