PFF player grades: Best, worst performers in Bears win over Jaguars

The Chicago Bears may have started slow in London on Sunday but they certainly finished strong, blasting the Jacksonville Jaguars to head into a bye week on a high note.

Unsurprisingly, several of the team’s top players graded out really well for their play.

There is still plenty to break down for this team during the off week but, first, let’s look back at Sunday’s win.

Here are the top-performing Bears on offense and defense (minimum of 10 snaps played) against the Jaguars, per Pro Football Focus. For reference, a grade of 60.0 is considered average while those in the 30s are very poor and those in the 90s are elite.

    Offense

    • QB Caleb Williams — 87.9
    • RT Darnell Wright — 78.2
    • WR Keenan Allen — 77.2
    • LG Teven Jenkins — 76.0
    • TE Cole Kmet — 74.9
    • LT Braxton Jones — 67.3
    • RG Matt Pryor — 64.4
    • C Coleman Shelton — 64.2
    • WR Rome Odunze — 63.2
    • WR DJ Moore — 60.9

The lowest-graded players on offense were TE Gerald Everett (52.2), RB Roschon Johnson (53.9) and TE Marcedes Lewis (56.7).

Those top five all had huge days so it’s no surprise to see their names up there. Overall, though, the offensive line did a really nice job on Sunday. Williams did take some sacks, mostly from holding the ball a little too long, but the guys up front set the tone early and often and were a big part of the offensive output.

With Nate Davis a healthy scratch, Pryor seems to be the guy at right guard now so we’ll see if that group can keep it going moving forward.

    Defense

    • S Kevin Byard — 85.3
    • DE Montez Sweat — 81.5
    • S Elijah Hicks — 78.1
    • CB Kyler Gordon — 77.2
    • LB T.J. Edwards — 70.5
    • LB Jack Sanborn — 68.7
    • DT Gervon Dexter Sr. — 65.8
    • DT Chris Williams — 65.8
    • DE DeMarcus Walker — 64.6
    • CB Josh Blackwell — 62.7

The lowest-graded defenders were DT Andrew Billings (38.0), LB Tremaine Edmunds (54.5) and DT Byron Cowart (56.3).

Even down multiple defensive backs, including two starters, Chicago’s secondary held up on Sunday.

Sweat generated a season-high six pressures and the unit as a whole produced 22, which certainly helps the secondary, but the defense continued its strong start to the season.

With higher-powered offenses ahead, hopefully a week of rest can help bring the defense back up to full strength.
