The San Antonio Spurs and Sacramento Kings have made a trade, according to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania. The Spurs will receive forward Jalen McDaniels and a future second-round pick from Sacramento.

McDaniels, 26, has played for the Charlotte Hornets, Philadelphia 76ers, and Toronto Raptors. At the end of last season, he was traded to the Kings from the Raptors and did not suit up for Sacramento's Summer League roster.

Over his five-season career, McDaniels has averaged 6.9 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 0.7 assists. He has shot 44.9 percent from the floor. He was picked in the second round of the 2019 draft by the Hornets after a productive two seasons at San Diego State University, where he was named to the All-Mountian West Team in 2018-19.

The Kings now have 20 players on their roster and only need to cut, waive, or trade two more before the season starts. The Spurs' roster is up to 21 players, and they will need to cut it down to 18 before October 22, the NBA's opening night.

McDaniels is a prime candidate to be waived, and it is unlikely that he will even play a preseason game for the Silver and Black.

The Spurs, who are always on the hunt to add more draft capital, add a second-round pick in exchange for eating the $4.7 million McDaniels is owed this year. The Kings, after trading for DeMar DeRozan, are up against the salary cap and can't afford to spend money on players who won't suit up for them, so they flip a second-round pick to have the Spurs do their dirty work.

Expect there to be even more lineup shuffling around the league before the regular season gets underway.
