Andy Reid Turns Heads With Speculation on Chiefs Trade For Wide Receiver

The 5-0 Kansas City Chiefs would fit the description of a "buyer" before the trade deadline on Nov. 5. The Chiefs have one position they would like to add to for the rest of the season.

Second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice is expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury that required surgery to repair in the Chiefs' 17-10 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4.

Despite not playing the team's fifth regular season game, Rice was the Chiefs' leading receiver entering the Week 6 bye with 24 receptions for 288 yards and two touchdowns.

The Chiefs have been without star wide receiver Marquise Brown due to a shoulder injury he suffered in the preseason. Brown is expected to miss months after he underwent a successful surgery in September.

On Monday, a reporter asked Chiefs head coach Andy Reid how important it would be for an incoming receiver to be familiar with the offense in Kansas City if the team made a move before the trade deadline.

Reid cautioned that recent wide receiver additions of JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman worked because they had played with Patrick Mahomes in a previous stint in Kansas City. The Chiefs would need to be patient if they added a pass catcher.

"I think that helped JuJu and his situation coming back in and jumping in," Reid said. "It helped Mecole coming back, but I'm not telling you other guys can't come in and help out. I don't think that's an issue.

"It's just going to take them a little bit longer to figure it out and get on the same page with Pat (Mahomes) and all those things that won't be quite (like) what you've seen with these other guys that have been in it. And I'm not saying that we need to bring anybody else in."

Reid had a grin on his face when he added that the Chiefs might not bring in a receiver. Some NFL fans on social media took that to mean Kansas City is indeed working behind the scenes to add more help for Mahomes. Others thought Reid was doing a great job of keeping his cards close to his chest.

"That smile at the end, they’re definitely bringing someone in," one fan commented .

"Big Red is so good about saying a lot of words to feed the media w/o showing his cards," wrote another. "Love it."

"So he's saying that he'd like to bring somebody in to make it easier, but he thinks they could still do it with what they have," one poster explained .

"Big man cover all bases with that answer," commented another.

"Andy Reid’s answer is always rather vague…he isn’t letting anybody know his moves," posted a fan.

"tldr; we will make it work," wrote another.

The Chiefs will have a chance to measure how their current roster stacks up at wide receiver when they play the defending NFC champion San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.

Wouldn't surprise me if Hill comes back. He wants out of Miami because the QBs suck
