Last Sunday, Texans RB Joe Mixon rushed up 102 yards on just 13 carries. In what was another crushing defeat for the Patriots, the Houston Texans were able to run all over the Pats' defense, rushing for 192 yards on just 28 carries (6.9 yards per carry). Putting up 41 points, the Texans controlled the clock and forced the Patriots to play catchup.

This put huge pressure on quarterback Drake Maye in his first start of the season. Like you'd expect from a young QB in a high-pressure situation, Maye threw two interceptions on Sunday. That said, Maye's performance stood out from the rest of the Patriots' QBs this season.

In the Patriots 41-21 loss on Sunday, Maye threw for 243 yards (an average of 12.15 yards per completion) and three touchdowns, sparking comparisons from fans and pundits alike.

In a recent interview on the Pat McAfee Show (a three-hour daily sports talk show hosted by WWE commentator and former National Football League punter Pat McAfee on ESPN ), Bill Belichik stopped by and outlined why starting the Patriots' Drake Maye was the right decision on Sunday, giving high praise to the young QB.

“I thought he played better than CJ. I worry a bit about Maye’s coaching situation, but that throw to Kayshon was a professional football throw. He reminds me a lot of Andrew Luck.”

This comes as high praise, as Luck passed for 23,671 yards and 171 TDs in just six seasons with the Indianapolis Colts. While the Patriots still have a lot of work to do improving both their offensive and defensive lines, if they're willing to spend the money in the offseason and get Maye the protection he needs, then we may just see a winning record (fingers crossed) from the Pats next season.
