Jokes Are Pouring In After Lions' Move to Replace Aidan Hutchinson

The Detroit Lions dismantled the Dallas Cowboys 47-9 on Sunday, but they didn't escape Texas unscathed. Star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson suffered a season-ending tibia injury, rendering a major hit to the Lions' defense.

On Tuesday, the team began to make moves to add depth in Hutchinson's absence.

According to ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler , the Lions "plan to sign defensive end Isaiah Thomas off the Bengals practice squad, per source. Former Browns draft pick gives Detroit some much-needed edge rush help."

Aside from the idea of a former seventh-round draft pick single-handedly trying to replace the NFL's sack leader (7.5), social media had some fun with the move.

Jokes poured in given the regional affinity for basketball Hall of Famer Isiah Thomas — who played his entire 13-year NBA career with the Detroit Pistons — as well as 5-foot-9 veteran guard Isaiah Thomas as he seeks to remain in the league in 2024-25.

"This is how it should be: Detroit can’t go wrong turning to another Isiah Thomas," ESPN's Adam Schefter wrote .

"I didn't know he played football. Thought he retired from basketball years ago..." one fan commented .

"Once a Detroit legend, always a Detroit legend," another echoed .

"@IsiahThomas thought you might be a little small for an edge, but you definitely have the heart of a @Lions," someone wrote .

"Do they know he’s 5’9??" another said .

Thomas, 25, will now join the Lions' 53-man roster. The 6-foot-5, 266-pounder out of Oklahoma will join a defensive end group including Levi Onwuzurike, Josh Paschal and rookie Isaac Ukwu.

Detroit (4-1) travels to take on the undefeated Minnesota Vikings (5-0) on Sunday.

The Lions needed another REAL edge rusher to solidify the D line before Hutch went down. Now it's more important. Number 97 is a one man wrecking crew, but he shouldn't have to hold the fort down by himself!! Best wishes for a full recovery 🙏 Hutch.
