Greg McElroy Facing Backlash Over Texas Longhorns Prediction

The No. 1 Texas Longhorns triumphed over the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry on Saturday, but they face their biggest challenge of the season in Week 8 when they host the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs .

Opening as 4-point favorites at home against Georgia, according to DraftKings Sportsbook , college football analyst and host of the " Always College Football " podcast, Greg McElroy , has lavished high praise on Texas. He believes they are on an upward trajectory as the season progresses.

The Longhorns are currently 6-0, with victories over Colorado State , Michigan , UTSA , Louisiana-Monroe , Mississippi State , and Oklahoma. The only current ranked team among these wins is No. 24 Michigan, who has two losses, one of which was against Washington.

McElroy's comments have drawn significant backlash, as many critics argue that Texas hasn't played a sufficiently challenging schedule to warrant such acclaim.

"Texas is the most complete team and the scary thing is... they're just getting started. I think Texas based on what I've seen is the most complete team and I still don't think we've seen a 60-minute performance from them." McElroy said.

While they remain unbeaten and hold the No. 1 ranking in the country, this weekend will provide valuable insight into how Texas truly measures up against the competition, especially as their schedule becomes significantly more challenging.

Nonetheless, fans did not take McElroy's assertion that Texas is the most complete team lightly, sparking considerable debate and discussion across the college football landscape.

" @GregMcElroy man what strong offensive teams have they actually played?? Their defense has not been tested." A fan posted .

"Texas has been playing practice games up to this very point. This weekend they will feed somebody who has a sit on them. And they will bring pressure and we will see exactly what Texas is made of. Homefield or not. Longhorn’s are going down baby. Mark my words now." Another fan commented.

"Lol play a team with a pulse." Someone else uttered .

"I can honestly see them losing five out of their next six games." One more fan commented.

The Longhorns finish the season with matchups against Georgia, Vanderbilt , Florida , Arkansas , Kentucky , and Texas A&M . While none of these teams, apart from Georgia, are considered powerhouse programs at this moment in time or top-five ranked opponents, traveling to face the Aggies in College Station and heading to Arkansas won't be easy. These matchups will undoubtedly challenge Texas, putting Greg McElroy's claims to the test over the coming month.
