Things got heated between Jerry Jones and the hosts of 105.3 The Fan on Tuesday morning. The owner of the Dallas Cowboys was upset at questions about the team's roster construction after a 47-9 blowout loss at home to the Detroit Lions on Sunday.
Per a transcript by The Athletic's Jon Machota of Jones' comments during his weekly radio appearance Tuesday, the Cowboys owner threatened to have hosts Shan Shariff and RJ Choppy replaced for questioning Dallas' 3-3 record at the bye.
"This is not your job," Machota posted on X. "Your job isn't to let me go over all the reasons that I did something and I'm sorry that I did it. That's not your job. I'll get somebody else to ask these questions. I'm not kidding. You're not going to figure it out what the team is doing right or wrong. If you are, or any five or 10 like you, you need to come to this (NFL) meeting I'm going to today with 32 teams here, you're geniuses.
"You really think you're gonna sit here with a microphone and tell me all of the things that I've done wrong without going over the rights? Listen, we both know we're talking to a lot of great fans, a lot of great listeners. And I'm very sorry for what happened out there Sunday. I'm sick about what happened Sunday."
"One of the stupidest things I've ever done, that anybody had ever analyzed was buy the Cowboys. It was an idiot that did that. So idiot things can turn into good decisions. Smart things can turn into bad decisions. The facts are when you make one, you don't really know if it's going to be good or not at the time. You want some conversation this morning, you're getting it."
NFL fans on social media didn't appreciate Jones' tone after the humbling start to the season for the Cowboys.
"Jerry Jones about to make more changes to the morning show than he did to his football team in the off-season," one person commented .
"It’s hilarious how every cowboy fan in the world understood that we needed to address the RB position and the owner/ GM refused to address it," posted one fan. "We knew that we needed to add beef to our d line and Jerry refused to address it. Who is the real idiot here Jerry? Oh yeah… YOU!!!!!"
"He seems unwell," suggested a poster. "I’m far, far from a Dallas fan but that’s exactly the reporter’s job to ask those kinds of questions after an epic beat down."
"Jerry was in the wrong the whole time," commented another. "The radio guy tried to ask legitimate questions. I get that Jerry doesn't want to answer them, but this team was literally built by Jerry! Shameful display."
"Mr. Jones, please finish your humble pie before speaking to the media," taunted a poster.
"Also, it is literally their job to get answers when the team doesn't perform," wrote a fan. "They are a fan radio associated with the Cowboys. Think the old man's finally reaching his limit."
Jones' mood about the Cowboys might not improve in the foreseeable future. After the bye in Week 7, the Cowboys will play a string of tough opponents in the San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Falcons, Philadelphia Eagles, Houston Texans, and Washington Commanders.
