A Game 2 win for the New York Yankees on Tuesday would give them something that they haven’t had in 15 years.

The Bronx Bombers won Game 1 of the American League Championship Series 5-2 on Monday against the Cleveland Guardians. The team has the opportunity to hold a 2-0 ALCS lead for the first time since their World Series-winning 2009 season.

The Yankees have reached the ALCS five times since their last World Series victory. The team has gone 0-5 in those series.

The team was swept by the Houston Astros in the championship series in 2022. The Yankees played the Astros in the ALCS in both 2019 and 2017 as well.

The Bronx Bombers won Game 1 of the 2019 series 7-0. It then took the Astros 11 innings to pull out a win in Game 2. The Astros would claim the first two games at Minute Maid Park to take a 3-1 series lead. They would go on to win the series in six games.

The two teams met again in 2017. The Astros won each of the first two games by a score of 2-1. The Yankees would tie the series at two games a piece and ended up forcing a Game 7. The Bronx Bombers were shut out in the winner-take-all game and the Astros won their first World Series in franchise history.

The 2012 ALCS didn’t show much promise for the Yankees either. The Detroit Tigers won four straight games en route to a World Series appearance.

The Yankees took Game 1 of the Texas Rangers in 2010 against the Texas Rangers. The Rangers would score seven or more runs in each of the next three games to take a 3-1 series lead. The Yankees would win more games before the end of the series.

Game 2 between the Yankees and Guardians is set for Tuesday at 7:38 p.m. at Yankee Stadium. Gerrit Cole will be on the mound for the Bronx Bombers as the Guardians will give Tanner Bibee the ball.
