Jets WR Could Hit Trade Block After Davante Adams Deal

Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams are being reunited in New York, now teammates on the Jets after a blockbuster deal with the Las Vegas Raiders. But with another wide receiver joining the roster, what's next for Mike Williams?

Jordan Schultz, NFL insider for FOX Sports, reports that Williams could be bound for the trade block as a byproduct of the "crowded receiver room."

"Sources: The #Jets are planning to make WR Mike Williams available for trade after acquiring Davante Adams," Schultz tweeted on October 15 . "Williams signed a 1-year deal this offseason and the current receiver room is just too crowded."

After tearing his ACL in September of 2023, New York has had to ease Williams into the offense week over week. But he hasn't developed the same chemistry with Rodgers that guys like Garrett Wilson and Allen Lazard have flashed.

Williams has caught 10-of-17 targets for 145 yards over the Jets' six-game start to 2024. He has yet to score a touchdown, and Rodgers' game-clinching interception against the Buffalo Bills in Week 6 was on a pass intended for the veteran receiver.

A receiver core featuring Adams, Lazard, and Wilson doesn't hold much room for another big name like Williams. New York may be better off targeting a trade return for the 30-year-old veteran. The wide receiver market is booming, after the Adams trade and the Bills' deal for Amari Cooper. Will the Jets strike a deal while the iron is hot?

Interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich didn't shoot down the possibility when talking to reporters on October 15. "We'll figure it out the next couple days how all these pieces fit together. It's an exciting and good problem to have," Ulbrich said .
