Bills Release Super Bowl-Winning Receiver After Amari Cooper Trade

Coming off their win against the New York Jets on Monday night, the Buffalo Bills decided to add another weapon to their receiving corps, trading for Pro Bowler Amari Cooper.

The Bills sent a 2025 third-round pick and a 2026 seventh-round pick to the Cleveland Browns for Cooper and a 2025 sixth-round pick.

After the Bills struggled with production from their receivers the past few weeks, they decided to go out and get a new top option for Josh Allen. If he stays healthy and is able to create some chemistry with Allen, Cooper has potential to fill the same role that Stefon Diggs had with Buffalo in recent years.

In order to make room on the roster for Cooper, the Bills released receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

The move to release the veteran receiver makes sense, as Valdes-Scantling had become the odd-man-out in the receivers room with the arrival of Cooper, and he simply hadn't been as productive as the Bills likely hoped he would be. Through six games, Valdes-Scantling had just two catches for 26 yards.

Coming off his second-straight Super Bowl win with the Kansas City Chiefs, the Bills signed Valdes-Scantling to a one-year deal in the offseason. After getting injured in preseason and not playing a role in special teams, he fell to the bottom of Buffalo's depth chart.

Now that Valdes-Scantling is a free agent, the Jets are a team to look out for to sign him, as he spent the start of his career with Aaron Rodgers on the Green Bay Packers.
