The Minnesota Golden Gophers football team is reportedly losing a defensive back to the transfer portal.

Senior Craig McDonald is reportedly entering the portal. He appeared in just one game this season — against Rhode Island — but didn’t record any tackles or deflections in his limited playing time.

McDonald joined the Gophers last year and appeared in six games for the Gophers as a junior, tallying two tackles in a reserve role. However, he was behind several other talented youngsters on the depth chart this season, including Koi Perich and Kerry Brown, and wasn’t seeing the field.

Prior to Minnesota, he spent started his collegiate career with two seasons at Iowa State, making 17 appearances for the Cyclones, including all 13 in a nice redshirt freshman season. However, he moved on to Auburn for one year and saw limited action in just two games before joining the Gophers. Now, he’ll look for one more school to play his final season in college.

The Gophers are currently on a bye week but will return to action on Oct. 26 when Maryland comes to town for Minnesota’s homecoming weekend. At 4-3 (2-2 in Big Ten play), the Gophers are currently tied for 10th in the conference.
