Minnesota Wild goaltender Filip Gustavsson etched his name into the history books on Tuesday night.

Thanks to an optimal situation that saw the Wild take a 3-1 lead over the St. Louis Blues and left the latter with an empty net trying to balance the score, Gustavsson found the opposing net from his own one.

By scoring the Wild's fourth goal of the evening, Gustavsson became the first goalie in franchise history to score a goal in the Wild’s 4–1 win over the Blues.

Gustavsson's performance not only helped improve Minnesota’s record to 2-0-2 but also added a unique moment to the game when he scored the empty-netter with just 8.1 seconds left in regulation.

Gustavsson described how the opportunity unfolded after a save on a Pavel Buchnevich shot from the blue line.

"They probably try and make me get a whistle and get a faceoff in our zone, and they just put it straight in the glove and I try and put it down as quick as I could," Gustavsson said . "It just laid perfect there on the ice, and I just try and shoot as hard as I could."

The 26-year-old goaltender became the 15th goalie in NHL history to score , and the first since Pittsburgh’s Tristan Jarry in Nov. 2023, according to NHL.com.

Gustavsson revealed he went for the shot after a brief talk with Wild's reserve goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury during a timeout earlier in the game.

“(Fleury) looked up at the board and said, ‘Yeah, we’re up two goals, you should probably try it. If you get the chance, you’re shooting, right?’” Gustavsson recalled. “I was like, yeah, maybe I should.”

Gustavsson’s performance wasn’t just about the highlight-reel goal. He stopped 27 of 28 shots, bringing his season save percentage to an impressive .948.

“I don’t think I do anything special right now,” Gustavsson said. “I just try to be in the right position most of the time and make boring saves.

”And I think that’s been working very good so far.”
