Before the Pac-12 lost teams to expansion, only the Washington Huskies and Oregon Ducks made the College Football Playoff from the conference. Oregon appeared in the playoff in 2014, and Washington made it in 2016 and 2023.

Oregon's lone playoff appearance ended with a loss to the Ohio State Buckeyes in the national championship. However, the Ducks have gotten revenge on the Buckeyes recently, winning the last two meetings in 2021 and 2024.

The Week 7 matchup was the 11th all-time meeting and ended with an exciting finish as Oregon won 32-31 in Eugene. The game ended after Ohio State quarterback Will Howard ran the ball and slid in bounds after thinking he had more time on the clock.

Other than the 2014 season, Oregon last appeared in the national championship game in 2010 under former head coach Chip Kelly. Although the Ducks have never won a national title, Rece Davis thought 2024 was different on a recent episode of the " College GameDay Podcast ."

"...I think Oregon is a team, once again, that can win the national championship and certainly go on to playing the Big 10 Championship Game and maybe win it," Davis said.

Oregon head coach Dan Lanning had his best season thus far in Eugene in 2023, finishing with a 12-2 record after a Fiesta Bowl win over Liberty. However, he has failed to lead the Ducks to the playoffs.

Following the win over Ohio State, the Ducks are 6-0 overall and 3-0 in conference play. Oregon, Indiana, and Penn State are the only undefeated Big Ten teams heading into Week 8.

The Ducks will look to extend their winning streak to seven games as Oregon travels to Purdue. Kickoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on FOX.
