Davante Adams vs. Amari Cooper Trades Make Jets & Bills Goals Perfectly Clear

The Buffalo Bills entered the unknown and came out victorious over the New York Jets on Monday night, winning 23-20 at MetLife Stadium - with defense making the big play when needed.

Buffalo’s defense came up big in the final moments, as cornerback Taron Johnson intercepted a pass from Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers with just under two minutes remaining. This turnover allowed the Bills to run out the clock and escape with a narrow victory.

And now the Bills are 4-2, dropping the Jets to 2-4, creating a distinct line of demarcation in the AFC East - at least before Tuesday's trade-craze day.

The Jets orchestrated their long-anticipated trade for the Raiders' Davante Adams. And then, in what almost seems like an arms-race response, the Bills pulled off a deal to get Amari Cooper from Cleveland. And the goals here are perfectly clear: Josh Allen needs one more weapon to keep that "line'' distinct, while Rodgers' Jets need to be "all in'' in pursuit.

What do the Bills have going for them now on offense, based on Week 6? Allen led the Bills’ offense , completing 19 of 25 passes for 215 yards and two touchdowns. While the game remained close, Tyler Bass’ 22-yard field goal with 3:43 left in the fourth quarter gave Buffalo a crucial three-point lead. The Bills then relied on their defense to hold off Rodgers and the Jets' offense in the closing minutes.

The Jets had their chances, but missed field goals by kicker Greg Zuerlein in the second half, proved costly. Despite an impressive night from Rodgers, who threw for 296 yards and two touchdowns, the Jets couldn’t find the end zone when it mattered most.

A standout detail from this game was the excessive penalties. Both teams combined for 204 penalty yards, the most in a game this season. These infractions repeatedly disrupted the flow of the game, stalling drives and setting offenses back. The Bills were penalized 11 times for 94 yards, while the Jets picked up 11 penalties for 110 yards, making discipline a major issue for both teams.

Amari Cooper and Davante Adams don't fix penalty problems. But on paper? They fix offenses. ... and now the arms race is on.
