Chiefs' Andy Reid Scouts Rookie Xavier Worthy With Bold Prediction

When the Kansas City Chiefs drafted speed merchant Xavier Worthy, many wondered how he would be used in Andy Reid's offense .

Well, through the first five weeks, in which the offense averages 23.6 points a game, we have seen Worthy's speed with ball in hand on display.

Worthy has 12 receptions for 179 yards and two touchdowns and has six rushing attempts for 42 yards and two touchdowns.

The rookie has been a dual threat in the first five games, and Reid likes what he's seen from Worthy.

“I think Xavier's done a nice job for us,” Reid said . “He does a lot of things, a lot of different positions, we got flexibility with him to move him around, he's a quick learner, which helps in this offense. So I'm happy with what we've got so far and I don't think we've tapped that out at all. He'll keep getting better, and that's exciting.”

Better? That's a bold prediction. Perhaps what is best about Worthy's performance over the first five weeks is that he has been involved in every game.

He's totaled at least two receptions and 17 yards and has had at least one rushing attempt, too, with his 21-yard touchdown run in Week 1 against the Baltimore Ravens the highlight.

So Worthy has been getting his feet wet in Reid's system and with Rashee Rice and Marquise Brown now lost for the season due to injury, more could be expected of Worthy going forward.

And based on what we've seen, if he gets the ball regularly, NFL defenses better watch out.
