Bills Scout Ray Davis' Performance vs. Jets With 5-Word Truth

    By Adam Schultz,

Buffalo Bills rookie running back Ray Davis got his opportunity against the New York Jets thanks to James Cook's injury, and he took his chance with both hands.

In the 23-20 win, Davis was the barometer for the Bills on the first drive, accounting for 48 rushing yards as he bludgeoned the Jets defense before Josh Allen took it in for a one-yard touchdown.

Davis showed his talent, as did Ty Johnson (four att, 34 yards), as the pair did their best to give Buffalo some resemblance of a run game, and they did just that.

For quarterback Josh Allen, Davis' performance is exactly what the franchise selected him in the fourth round.

“Awesome to see,” Allen said . “That's why we drafted him. He's not going to surprise you with his speed, but he's just so quick in out of his cuts, he's downhill, and his center of gravity is so low that he's tough to bring down. He runs the ball super hard, protects the ball, I'm very proud of him for stepping up.”

With Davis rushing for 97 yards on 20 carries, the Bills allowed Allen to control the game and not have to put on the Superman cape, throwing just 25 times.

That feels like the way forward for Buffalo, and Joe Brady (offensive coordinator) has done a good job through the first six weeks of playing complementary football .

The offense rolls far better with a healthy mix of the run and pass game, and add in the "everybody eats" mantra, and defenses don't know where Allen is going with the football.

But against the Jets, he did. And it was a healthy dose of Davis to help set up the win.
