The New York Yankees have gotten solid first-inning production from two of their top hitters.

Gleyber Torres and Juan Soto have formed a formidable 1-2 duo to get things started for the Bronx Bombers. Torres has gone 3-4 with two walks to leadoff games while Soto is 4-5 with a walk as the second batter up in the Yankees’ batting order.

While the two players have found success getting on base to start games, the heart of the lineup has not. Aaron Judge, Austin Wells, Giancarlo Stanton, and Jazz Chisholm Jr. have combined to go 0-16 in the first inning.

Torres led Game 2 of the ALCS against the Cleveland Guardians off with a double. Soto then hit a single and the Yankees took an early lead as Aaron Judge reached base via an error.

The Bronx Bombers also scored first in Game 4 of the ALDS against the Kansas City Royals.

Torres spent the first half of the season in the bottom half of the batting order for the Bronx Bombers. He took over as the team’s leadoff hitter in mid-August and was a .313 hitter during his final 39 games of the regular season.

Soto has been the two-hitter in the Yankees’ lineup all season long. He formed a powerful duo ahead of Judge. The outfielder hit a career-high 41 home runs while driving in 109 batters in the regular season.

The Yankees and Guardians play Game 3 of the ALCS on Thursday at 5:08 p.m.
