The Philadelphia 76ers are being considered Championship contenders heading into the 2024-25 season after adding the likes of Paul George, Andre Drummond, Caleb Martin, Guerschon Yabusele and more over the offseason. They also agreed long-term extensions with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey.

The Sixers do seem to have a Championship-level roster. But central to their title hopes will be the health of Embiid and George.

They are two key players for the 76ers moving forward and both have a history of injury problems.

We are already seeing the effects of that on the court. Embiid had a light training camp and won't take part in preseason. The 30-year-old has never really been healthy come playoff time over the course of his Hall of Fame career, always picking up some sort of injury.

On the other hand, George hyperextended his knee in the Sixers' preseason game against the Atlanta Hawks. Fortunately, it is a bone bruise and not a serious issue. Still, it should take the 34-year-old some time to return to the court.

It is quite clear that the 76ers are planning to manage the minutes of both Embiid and George. According to Tim Bontemps of ESPN , Daryl Morey said: "We're going to be smart about it.

"Part of being smart about it is having both Paul and Joel probably not play many back to backs, if any."

Embiid himself echoed something similar as he said: "If I had to guess.

"I would probably never play back-to-backs the rest of my career."

Of course, Nick Nurse has worked under these circumstances in the past and to great success. Kawhi Leonard's minutes were managed during his sole season with the Toronto Raptors.

That did help Kawhi reach the playoffs healthy, play 24 times in the postseason and guide the Raptors to Championship glory.
