Sochan, Wembanyama Building Chemistry With Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs are building around Victor Wembanyama, but some players who were on the roster before he got there, namely Devin Vassell and Jeremy Sochan, are doing a solid job of slotting in next to the soon-to-be All-Star.

In the Spurs' recent loss to the Miami Heat, Sochan led the Spurs with 18 points, all of which came in the paint. He seemed to occupy the dunkers' spot and found plenty of easy baskets throughout the game.

Sochan's highlight play, just the third bucket of the game, came via a lob from Wembanyama after he had run the floor after getting a steal. Sochan credits growing chemistry with Wembanyama, and thinks it will result in plenty of on-court success.

"It's just natural," said Sochan. "We know where we are, and we just play off each other."

The Spurs will likely use Wembanyama, Sochan, Harrison Barnes, Julian Champagnie, and Chris Paul as the starting lineup to kick off the season while Vassell recovers from injury, and they think the chemistry throughout that roster is only improving.

"We have length, Vic at the top, I think it's a good defensive unit and everyone knows how to play," continued Sochan.

Sochan and Wembanyama are far from the perfect pairing, at least for now. Sochan's poor outside shooting ends with him often playing by the hoop, which forces Wembanyama to the perimeter. However, the two play off of each other rather well, and if Sochan can add a reliable outside shot, it will only get even more out of the budding duo.
