$10 Million Coach Mocked By College Football Fans

The Power Five coaching business is absurdly lucrative, with top college football head coaches earning salaries in the eight-figure range.

USA Today recently updated its list of college football's highest-paid coaches — and the list making some serious waves on social media.

A few names on the list stick out more than others, including Florida State Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell.

Norvell sits No. 6 on the list with a $10 million salary.

Florida State is 1-5 to start the 2024 college football season, making him by far the most overpaid coach in the country in terms of money per win.

Norvell earns the same salary as Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer, and more than coaches like Lane Kiffin, Josh Heupel and Dan Lanning.

College football fans are clowning Norvell and Florida State over this coaching contract.

"Pay me 10 million a year and I could coach about as well as Mike Norvell right now," one wrote.

"Boys made Norvell the highest paid 1-5 coach in America. This is how you finesse. Shout out to Mike for securing the bag," another said.

"Florida State’s AD should be in prison for paying Mike Norvell $10 million," another added.

Norvell earned his current contract with an undefeated 2023 regular-season and an ACC Championship title in 2023. But ever since the program's snub from the College Football Playoff, things have gone severely downhill.

The Seminoles' only win of the year came over Cal on Sep. 21. After that victory, the team suffered blowout losses to SMU and Clemson.

Florida State will return to action in an away matchup against the Duke Blue Devils on Friday night.
