Potential Jets Trade Chip Gets Big Update After Davante Adams Arrival

Even though they suffered their fourth loss of the 2024 campaign in Week 6, the vibes are high for the New York Jets right now thanks to the team's big trade for superstar wide receiver Davante Adams.

After he requested a trade off of the Las Vegas Raiders, the Jets swooped in and picked up Adams on Tuesday, reuniting him with Aaron Rodgers, whom he spent the first eight seasons of his career catching passes from while on the Green Bay Packers.

Things aren't good for everyone, though, and one guy who finds himself on the outside looking in currently is Mike Williams. The veteran wideout is reportedly on the trade block after the Jets acquired Adams, and his absence from practice for personal reasons will only result in those rumors heating up even more over the next few days.

Williams signed a one-year, $10 million deal in free agency with the Jets over the offseason, but he's struggled to find his fit in their offense as he worked his way back from a season-ending torn ACL he suffered in Week 3 last season with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Through six games, Williams has hauled in just ten passes for 145 yards, as he has been unable to get on the same page as Rodgers under center. With Adams, Garrett Wilson, and Allen Lazard leading the wide receiver room, there simply isn't room for Williams anymore.

Injuries have always been a problem for Williams, who has been one of the most explosive players in the league during his career when he's on the field. That track record should result in him having a trade market if the Jets do end up moving him.

While no one knows the exact reason for Williams' absence at practice on Wednesday, it will only further support the notion that he is expecting to get traded in the near future. So even with this deal for Adams in the books, Williams' practice status hints at the fact that New York may not be done making moves just yet.
