Steelers' Mike Tomlin Makes 'In-House' Quarterback Decision: Russ vs. Justin?

Russell Wilson is getting first-team reps. But that doesn't necessarily he is back as the Pittsburgh Steelers' starting quarterback.

Even though Wilson's calf injury is healed and he was seen working with the starting offense while Justin Fields was relegated to the second unit, Steelers' coach Mike Tomlin on Wednesday was in no mood to make any declarations about his starting quarterback for Sunday night's game against the New York Jets.

Said Tomlin, "Any decisions that have been made at this time are in-house."

This much we know, however, just from the glimpse of Wednesday's practice: Wilson is getting every opportunity to win the job from Fields.

Tomlin in the past has stuck with the "hot hand" when it comes to quarterbacks. At the end of last season, for example, he kept giving starts to Mason Rudolph over first-round draft pick Kenny Pickett.

But Fields' "hand" has cooled recently. After a 3-0 start, the Steelers lost consecutive three-point games to the Indianapolis Colts and Dallas Cowboys before blowing out the Las Vegas Raiders last week.

Fields has protected the ball and authored a winning record, but Wilson was signed and named captain to lead the Steelers this season.
