1006 days. That is how long Lonzo Ball had to wait before playing competitive basketball again. He ended that wait by taking part in the Chicago Bulls' preseason win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Ball did not just return to the court but he showed that he is still capable of contributing as well. In 15 minutes, he scored 10 points going 4/6 from the field. He also registered an assist and a rebound.

In the process, Ball made history. No other player had returned to high-level sports after one of the procedures he underwent while he missed more than two seasons of basketball.

It was an emotional moment for many and in many ways, it showed the journey that Ball has been on over the years.

He has gone from one of the most controversial figures in the game while entering the league as the second overall pick for the Los Angeles Lakers to a sympathetic hero returning from a career-threatening injury for the Bulls.

NBA fans were delighted with Ball's return to the court, as were many of his peers. Former Lakers teammate, LeBron James, wrote on his Instagram story: "So damn proud of you man!!!"

On the other hand, Trae Young commented on Ball's emotional post after his return: "Welcome back Killa !!"

Former Bulls teammate Alex Caruso, who was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder not too long ago, commented: "ZO2 !! Good to have u back"

A number of Ball's current teammates left positive comments on his post as well. Rookie Matas Buzelis wrote: "Man… all God"

Ball returning to the court was certainly a feel-good moment. And it is something that the Bulls needed right now when there is not a lot of positivity around the organization.

Let's hope that Ball can remain injury-free going forward and gets to do what he does best, which is playing the game of basketball.
