Bills Urged To Move Toward Running Room for James Cook and Rookie

The Buffalo Bills' 23-20 win over the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium will be remembered for a lot of things, but one of them is the emergence of running back Ray Davis.

With starter James Cook out with a toe injury, the running back room consisted of Davis and Ty Johnson, and the pair more than played their part in the victory.

The tone was set on the opening drive from the Bills as they bullied the Jets, with Davis leading the way. He totaled six straight carries for 48 yards with a 15-yard run the feature before Josh Allen punched it in from one yard for the game's first touchdown.

New York had zero answer for Davis on that first drive, and it was a well that Buffalo kept going back to.

Davis would finish his night with 20 carries for 97 yards (4.8 yards per clip), and if that wasn't enough for the Bills coaching staff to think he might deserve more snaps going forward, what he did in the passing game will.

The rook hauled in three catches for 55 yards to be the offense's leading "receiver" on the night as he showed he is more than just a power back. The highlight was his 44-yard reception after Allen was forced to scramble outside the pocket and threw a laser to Davis, who somehow managed to haul the pass in.

And now the Bills are understandably being urged to find rook to include Davis in an offense that is largely designed to hand it off to Cook. It is a proverbial "good problem to have.''

In a game where many thought the Bills' run game would suffer without Cook, Davis answered the call and delivered a superb performance to help snap Buffalo's two-game losing streak.
