Matthew Boyd Gets The Game 3 Nod For The Cleveland Guardians

Matthew Boyd will take the mound for the Cleveland Guardians in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series on Thursday.

The Bronx Bombers hold a 2-0 lead in the ALCS over the Cleveland Guardians. Boyd will be asked to eat some innings and keep the Yankees lineup at bay in Game 3.

The Guardians’ bullpen has been heavily used through the first two games of the series. Alex Cobb started Game 1 and he only went 2.2 innings. Stephen Vogt used four relievers to pitch the final 5.1 innings.

The Guardians then gave the ball to their ace Tanner Bibee for Game 2. He gave up a run in the first and then allowed four base runners in the second before being pulled. The Bronx Bombers took a 3-0 lead after the second frame and Vogt needed seven relievers to finish off the game.

Boyd has made two starts in the 2024 playoffs. He took the mound for Game 2 of the ALDS against the Detroit Tigers. The lefty allowed four hits in 4.2 shutout innings. Boyd then started Game 5 of the ALDS and two base runners in two innings.

The lefty made eight starts after making his season debut in August. He was 2-2 with a 2.72 ERA and 46 strikeouts in 39.2 innings.

Boyd made his second start of the season against the Yankees. He allowed three runs in 5.1 innings as the Guardians prevailed 9-5 back on Aug. 20.

Clarke Schmidt will be on the mound for the Yankees on Thursday night.

The Yankees and Guardians play Game 3 of the ALCS on Thursday at 5:08 p.m.
