Joel Klatt Makes Official Pick for No. 1 Texas Longhorns vs. No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs

We've seen a couple of top-five matchups in college football so far this season, from No. 1 Georgia vs. No. 4 Alabama and No. 2 Ohio State vs. No. 3 Oregon. So far, neither of those games has disappointed, with the lower-seeded team winning both contests so far.

On Saturday, we will get another top-five matchup, this time No. 1 Texas vs. No. 5 Georgia.

If history is any indication, it's the lower-seeded Bulldogs who will triumph on Saturday in Austin, but the betting odds say otherwise, with the Longhorns favored by 3.5 points, according to FanDuel Sportsbook.

That's how Fox Sports analyst Joel Klatt sees things as well. On his preview podcast this week, Klatt revealed that he is siding with Texas in this matchup.

"I like Texas in this game," Klatt said. "I like Texas 34-31."

One of the major concerns for the Longhorns is the fact that they have not faced a great offense yet this year, beating teams like Michigan, Oklahoma, Colorado State, and UTSA, among others. Because of this, their defensive stats look spectacular, but it's fair to wonder how that unit will look going up against an offense like Georgia's.

However, on the offensive side of the ball, Texas is as good as anyone, especially on the offensive line.

"I think that the team with the better offensive line wins the game," Klatt said. "They control the tempo of the game, they control how comfortable the quarterback is, both from a pressure standpoint and an ease of passing standpoint ... The better offensive line in this game is Texas. They're more experienced, they're healthier, and I just think that they're better overall."

Georgia has very little wiggle room if they are to make the College Football Playoff, as they are looking to avoid their first two-loss season since 2020. Earlier this year, the Bulldogs fell to Alabama, and another loss could put them on the outside of the playoff picture looking in.

This game kicks off on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. EST.
