Tom Brady became a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders this week, and the future Hall of Famer is partnering with an organization that could use a shot in the arm. However, this wasn't the first time Brady has explored joining the Raiders in some capacity.

According to senior writer Tashan Reed of the Athletic, Mark Davis wanted Brady to join the Raiders as a free agent in 2020. However, then-head coach Jon Gruden decided to pass on signing the veteran, and he signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers instead, immediately bringing them a Super Bowl.

"I wanted him to play for the Raiders," Davis said this week after NFL owners approved Brady as part owner of the Raiders. "It didn't come to fruition for certain reasons, and he went to Tampa Bay and ended up winning a Super Bowl. I had stayed in touch with his agent and just let his agent know at the time that I would love, at some point in time, for Tom to be part of this organization. The seeds were sown then, and it came to fruition."

Davis finally got his wish this week, and he made clear his hope that Brady will help shape the organization's future.

“Although Tom can’t play, I think he can help us select a quarterback in the future and potentially train him as well,” Davis said. “It’s a huge benefit to the organization.”
