Bucs Ride Tucker Train for NFC Offensive Player of the Week

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been working on improving the run game since last season when they boasted the league's worst rushing attack.

It started with the drafting of Oregon's Bucky Irving in the fourth round in April and continued with the hiring of Liam Coen as the Bucs' new offensive coordinator. How's it going now?

    Pretty well.

Through six weeks the Bucs have the sixth-most rushing yards in the league as a team with 821. And it's truly been a team effort, as Tampa Bay's leading rusher, Irving, is at No. 19 for individual rushers in the NFL with 328.

But in Sunday's 51-27 win over the Saints, a new hero emerged in Sean Tucker. The former Syracuse running back had just two carries and one reception through the first five weeks of the season. But on Sunday, he carried the Bucs' offense with 192 total yards from scrimmage with 136 on the ground and 56 through the air and scored two touchdowns.

Tucker's performance on Sunday has earned him the honor of the NFL Offensive Player of the Week for Week 6. He's the first Buccaneer to earn the honor since 2021.

Tucker joined the Bucs as an undrafted free agent in 2023, and saw action in 11 games with just 15 carries for 23 yards. It looks like Tucker now could be part of a three-player rotation at running back alongside Irving and Rachaad White.
