Texas star quarterback Quinn Ewers is making his case to be one of the top players taken in the 2025 NFL draft. While the No. 1 Longhorns compete for an SEC championship appearance and College Football Playoff spot, NFL teams are watching the former five-star closely in his audition for the next level.

Ewers (6-foot-2, 210 pounds) doesn't have numbers that jump off the stat sheet to this point in the season. The San Antonio native missed two and a half games for Texas due to an abdominal strain. However, Ewers has made things look easy when healthy, completing 72.2% of his passes for 890 yards with nine touchdowns to three interceptions in four games.

Ewers helped lead Texas to its first playoff appearance in program history last season. The former Ohio State transfer finished 15th in the nation among passers with 3,479 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and six interceptions in 12 games.

The questions are which NFL team will take a chance on Ewers and where will he ultimately land in the draft order? According to CBS Sports' latest mock draft , Ewers is projected replace a $160 million passer out of the NFC East.

CBS Sports projects Ewers to land to the New York Giants at No. 14 overall, ultimately replacing six-year starter Daniel Jones. The Giants (2-4) have struggled mightily on offense under third-year head coach Brian Daboll and behind the arm of Jones, who signed a four-year, $160 million deal in 2023.

New York drafted former LSU star wide receiver Malik Nabers at No. 6 overall in last year's draft. Though just a rookie, Nabers has looked like one of the game's future stars already this season, catching 35 passes for 386 yards and three touchdowns. The potential combination of Ewers to Nabers could be a much-needed spark for the Giants offense.

"The ebb and flow of Daniel Jones as the starting quarterback continues,"Josh Edwards wrote. "Does New York have its answer yet? Quinn Ewers to Malik Nabers could be an exciting connection for years to come."

Jones was drafted at No. 6 overall in 2019 out of Duke. His best season came in 2022 while leading the Giants to a 9-7 record, New York's only winning season since 2016.

According to CBS Sports' projections, Ewers would be the fourth quarterback taken behind Colorado's Shedeur Sanders (Browns), Miami's Cam Ward (Panthers) and Georgia's Carson Beck (Raiders). Ewers could very well find himself in the conversation for a higher selection with a stellar performance to finish out the season.

Ewers and the Longhorns will welcome No. 5 Georgia to Austin in Week 8.
