Shaq Delivers 3-Word Cowboys Signing Message To Jerry Jones

FRISCO — No team in the NFL has offered a more putrid run game through the first six weeks of the season than the Dallas Cowboys. They rank dead last in total rushing yards, rushing yards per game and yards per carry.

There remain many flaws with the Cowboys, but their issues on the ground quite literally could not be worse. The reason for those issues are plenty. The most clear trouble lies in their inability to remain in competitive games and shift immediately to prayers for deliverance from their quarterback.

But schematically, their offensive line has hit significant regression with a mix of old age and very green youth. Additionally, their group in the backfield offers little to nothing of substance as far as reliable running back production.

Rico Dowdle has shown flashes, but the Cowboys remain noncommittal on him. Ezekiel Elliott returned home this season though he has no gas left in the tank.

Some though Dalvin Cook could get a chance to take over this unit, but he remains shelved on the practice squad. Dallas still must charter an 11-game campaign and they have few reasons to expect any improvement among their stable of running backs.

Could they explore any external additions? Pro Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O'Neal advertised his suggestion of free agent Leonard Fournette. The Super Bowl-winning running back made an appearance on "The Big Podcast" with Shaq.

"Jerry Jones. Jerry Jones. It's me, your boy, Shaq. Look at him [Fournette], looking good, six pack .... he's ready to go." he said. "Alright, Jerry Jones? Stop messing around."

"Facts, [I'm] still 29," Fournette added.

Certainly a fun idea and if the Cowboys were looking to seriously contend, Fournette would serve as a viable replacement for any potentially injured running back. But even for owner Jerry Jones' liking, there may be too many past-their-prime veterans in this backfield.

Elliott remains a part of the rotation and the Cowboys have already acquired their sign-and-stash safety net in Dalvin Cook. Fournette does not fit into that picture.

However, like Shaq many Cowboys fans have grown weary of the lackluster roster construction. Specifically with the run game, the team needs a complete overhaul once this season comes to a close.
