After a Week 6 bye, the Kansas City Chiefs return to the field with a highly anticipated matchup against the San Francisco 49ers.

The Chiefs (5-0) look to remain undefeated when they travel to Levi's Stadium for the Week 7 matchup. As for the 49ers (3-3), they finally have some momentum going after crushing the Seattle Seahawks 36-24 at Lumen Field last week.

While Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and Co. have won their past four consecutive matchups against San Francisco, they are considered 1.5-point underdogs for this week's tilt. The Chiefs were also deemed underdogs before the 2024 Super Bowl, a game Kansas City won 25-22 in overtime.

With the Chiefs-49ers rematch expected to be an absolute nail-biter, Fox made a rare decision before the Oct. 21 showdown.

While Fox and CBS typically have competing late afternoon games, the Chiefs-49ers matchup is the only game slotted at 1:25 p.m. EST, and it will be the first nationally televised afternoon matchup of the 2024 NFL season.

Kevin Burkhardt will provide the play-by-play commentary for the game while Fox analyst Tom Brady provides the color commentary. The network has Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi reporting from the sidelines in Week 7.

Fox's decision to nationally televise the game has nothing to do with Taylor Swift , as she can't attend the matchup on Sunday. While fans seeing Swift cheering for boyfriend Travis Kelce always racks up viewers, the pop star's "Eras" concert tour performs in Miami that night, which Fox knew before making the broadcast decision.

The last time an afternoon game was nationally televised was the Dallas Cowboy's matchup against the Buffalo Bills in Week 15 of the 2023 NFL season.

Fox and CBS need to make their games available over all regions and not this particular time. Streaming these days limits a vast majority of the public's ability to enjoy NFL games
