On Thursday, Kansas City Chiefs owner Clark Hunt expressed his opinion on kicker Harrison Butker's recent political activity. The three-time Super Bowl champion gave a commencement address this spring at Benedictine College that espoused his beliefs in traditional values.

Butker recently started the political action committee "Upright" to promote traditional values.

"We’re seeing our values under attack every day," the PAC states on its website. "In our schools, in the media, and even from our own government. But we have a chance to fight back and reclaim the traditional values that have made this country great. That's why UPRIGHT PAC was founded.

"We are working to mobilize Christians across this country to make sure we protect these values at the ballot box. If we don’t stand up now, who will?"

Per Dave Skretta of the Associated Press, Hunt defended Butker's right to use his "platform" as a Chiefs' player to express his political beliefs.

“One of the things I talk to the players every year about at training camp is using their platform to make a difference,” Hunt said. “We have players on both sides of the political spectrum, both sides of whatever controversial issue you want to bring up. I’m not at all concerned when our players use their platform to make a difference.”

The Chiefs gave Butker a four-year contract extension worth $25.6 million during training camp in August. The NFL's scoring leader in 2019 is 12-of-14 on his field goal attempts this season and 10-of-11 on extra point attempts.
