Super Bowl Champion Pitches DeAndre Hopkins Trade To Up-And-Coming AFC Contender

Over the last few weeks, there's been much speculation about the possibility of the Tennessee Titans trading wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins.

The Titans are currently 1-4 and don't appear to be contending for a Super Bowl any time soon. At 32, Hopkins is in the later stages of his career, but he can still be a valuable asset on a winning team.

This past week, two AFC teams made trades at the wide receiver position. The New York Jets traded for Davante Adams , while the Buffalo Bills added Amari Cooper.

The focus now shifts to two other AFC teams who have been speculated to be in the market for a wide receiver: the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers.

On Thursday's edition of ESPN's " Get Up ," Super Bowl champion Jason McCourty called for the Steelers to trade for Hopkins.

"DeAndre Hopkins goes to the Pittsburgh Steelers," McCourty said. " Hopefully, he's (Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin) able to get the ball out and get it on the edge a little bit more. They need help on the outside. And a guy like DeAndre Hopkins, who wins contested passes, he can go out there and win and really help them."

Hopkins, the four-time NFL All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler, is making $8.27 million this season and will become a free agent after the 2024-25 season ends.

This makes him an intriguing option for Super Bowl contenders looking for a “rental piece” to boost their rosters heading into the playoffs.

While signing him long-term may not be ideal due to his age, contenders could also potentially acquire him for a playoff run and explore the option of re-signing him on a short-term deal at a lower price.

Hopkins is in his 12th NFL season and second with the Titans. So far in 2024, he's accumulated 14 receptions for 175 yards and one touchdown .

Hopkins has also had stints with the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals. In his career, he's recorded 942 receptions for 12,530 receiving yards and 79 touchdowns .
