Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian Addresses Possible Quarterback Change

    By Kevin Matthew Borba,

On Thursday, Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian found himself in a familiar yet bizarre situation when speaking to the media.

The Texas Longhorns are ranked as the No. 1 team in the country, rank in the Top-7 in both total offense and defense and their smallest margin of victory thus far is 19 points. However, he was still asked what it would take to make a change at quarterback in a game if Ewers is struggling, presumably to Arch Manning.

The question likely stems from the fact that in Texas' Week 7 win against No. 18 Oklahoma, Ewers looked a bit rusty in his return after missing the past two games due to an oblique injury. He still ended up completing 20-of-29 passes for 199 yards and a touchdown, but he did open the game up with a pick and a handful of overthrows.

Regardless, Sarkisian was not going anywhere near that question and shut it down quickly, as he is clearly not wavering in his confidence in Ewers.

"I'm not even going to answer that," Sarkisian said . "I don't know what the question is. Next question."

The Longhorns are firing on all cylinders, and the last thing they need is a distraction ahead of or during their meeting with the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday. While Ewers was far from his best against Oklahoma, he has been clutch in past games against top teams, as we saw against Michigan earlier this year and at Alabama last season.

The Longhorns are well aware of what Manning can do, but there's really no need to break that glass case open unless the offense has fully imploded. Something we haven't seen under Sarkisian since Hudson Card and Casey Thompson against Arkansas.
