New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen admitted that the coaching staff and the players had their own shortcomings in their ugly Thursday Night Football loss to the Denver Broncos. However, the veteran tactician pointed out that injuries didn't help them at all.

Speaking to reporters following the Broncos' 33-10 demolition of his Saints, Allen shared that injury issue they were dealing with was one of the reasons they lost. He's not solely pinning the blame on their health problems, but the 52-year-old coach highlighted how much it affected their performance.

" It's been disappointing ," Allen said of the loss, per ESPN. "Injuries play a part of it but we've got to find a way to play better.

"We're making mistakes we shouldn't be making. Us as coaches and players alike, we've got to figure it out."

To be fair to Dennis Allen, the Saints truly entered the game with a shorthanded squad. Saints quarterback Derek Carr missed his second straight game due to an oblique problem, with rookie Spencer Rattler filling in for him once again.

Wide receivers Chris Olave and Rashid Shaheed, center Erik McCoy, guard Cesar Ruiz and tight end Taysom Hill were also out during the game.

Having said that, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the Saints scored just one touchdown and only recorded it in the fourth quarter with the game all but decided.

For what it's worth, Dennis Allen's explanation came amid the mounting calls to fire him. After their loss that saw them drop to 2-5 on the season, the home fans at the Superdome chanted "Fire Dennis Allen."

It remains to be seen what the Saints will do with their head coach, but if their struggles continue, the fans' frustration will only intensify.

Allen should have been fired since last season. It's no way in the world they scored over 90 points in the first two games and got their ass whipped in the last 5
