Biggest Takeaways From Knicks 118-117 Preseason Finale Loss

There's only one major takeaway worth mentioning following the New York Knicks dropping their preseason finale to the Washington Wizards by a final score of 118-117.

This team should be really good in 2024.

Whether it was the fact that stars Jalen Brunson and Karl-Anthony Towns combined for close to 50 points in Friday night's loss, or the fact that New York's bench is one of the deepest in basketball, the Knicks have one of the most talented teams in the NBA this season.

And no meaningless preseason game will matter in that regard.

A key takeaway throughout Friday's loss, though, was the length the team now plays with. Whether it was Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, or a deep bench, the Knicks have a quality defensive unit.

They just have to figure out their offense as well.

New York shot 22% from beyond the arc in Friday's loss. While that's not the end of the world for a single game, the team losing Donte DiVincenzo in the trade for Karl Anthony-Towns highlights the potential need for a three-point sharpshooter for the Knicks.

And those kinds of players aren't easily found during this stage of the season.

The Knicks know they are good. A preseason loss won't change that. They look as prepared as ever for their opening night contest against the Boston Celtics.

But some lingering concerns will be focused on early in the 2024-25 season.
