Week 8 of the 2024 college football season will bring us plenty of great matches that could have significant College Football Playoff implications. From the No. 1 Texas Longhorns hosting the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs to the No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers hosting the No. 7 Alabama Crimson Tide, Saturday should be an entertaining day of football.

Before all the weekend drama, there was another game on Friday night that ended in a historic loss for one program.

The Florida State Seminoles, who entered the season as the No. 10 team in the nation, fell to 1-6 as the weekend begins after losing to the Duke Blue Devils 23-16.

According to On3's Hayes Fawcett, this marked Florida State's first-ever loss to the Blue Devils, at least in football.

The Seminoles' website notes that with the latest loss, FSU now sits a 22-1 all-time against Duke. Their first head-to-head happened back in Sept. 1992, when the Seminoles defeated the Blue Devils 48-21 in Tallahassee, FL.

In Friday's matchup, neither team could get much going on offense, with FSU outgaining the Blue Devils in total yardage 291-180. However, even with the extra 111 yards of offense, Florida State's undoing was their four turnovers (two fumbles and two interceptions). In fact, the Seminoles failed to get into the end zone on offense throughout the entire game.

After a decent first game as a starter in Week 6, FSU Freshman quarterback Brock Glenn, who replaced DJ Uiagalelei a few games ago, struggled mightily against Duke, completing 9-of-19 passes for 110 yards and two picks. Certainly, it wasn't much of an improvement from the previous starter.

Sitting at 1-5 in ACC play, the Seminoles' fifth-year head coach, Mike Norvell, has certainly found himself on the hot seat after this disappointing start. And it won't get any easier as FSU will take on their in-state rivals in the No. 6 Miami Hurricanes next week.

Duke now holds a record of 6-1 and 2-1 in conference play. They will also get a ranked ACC opponent in Week 9 with the No. 21 SMU Mustangs coming to Durham.
