Cowboys Coach Scouts 'Rocket Ship' KaVontae Turpin

Dallas Cowboys return specialist and "rocket ship" KaVontae Turpin is reaping the rewards of a hard offseason of work with the receiver group.

With Turpin known only as a return guy, last season, he dipped his toes into becoming more than just a one-trick pony, and he made some plays for Mike McCarthy's offense.

Now, after yet another offseason to work under the watchful eye of receivers coach Robert Prince, Turpin has had some good moments in games this year.

“Yeah, he's another one that he's put in the time, and he's really worked, especially in the slot,” Prince said. “But it's fun to see him get a little more activity in the offense, and when his number's called, he's made some plays.”

Turpin managed to get his first return touchdown of his career in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns, and he has also made plays as a receiver.

In his six games, Turpin has surpassed 50 receiving yards twice, which shows Dak Prescott's trust in him. But with his speed, Turpin has helped flip the field two, with catches of 34 and 23 yards on the year. Cowboys fans now have the right to wonder - especially as Troy Aikman has put the spotlight on this CeeDee Lamb-led receivers group as being "terrible'' and "lazy'' in some department s - if more Turpin might help.

Such has been his impact on the offense, albeit fleetingly, Turpin has already surpassed his reception and yards totals from last season, and we are just six games into the year.

So that is progression, and while Turpin isn't a "fully-fledged" receiver yet, he's made positive strides, and unfortunately, the offense's struggles have meant that what Turpin has done in games this season has been forgotten.

But after the bye week, the Cowboys will hope to have fixed their glaring issues, and maybe, just maybe, Turpin will slowly become more involved in McCarthy's offense.
