The Miami Dolphins have been without starting quarterback Tua Tagovailoa since he suffered a concussion in their Week 2 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

The Dolphins were not overly aggressive in finding elite outside help at quarterback when Tagovailoa was placed on injured reserve, as the team hoped the former first-round pick would return to play this season. (The Dolphins did bring in Tyler Huntley after Skylar Thompson suffered an injury in Week 3.)

However, there were questions surrounding Tagovailoa's career in the league following the concussion and whether the Pro Bowl quarterback could retire this season. The brain injury he suffered against the Bills was his third such official concussion in his five-year NFL career.

After spending time recovering this fall, Tagovailoa intends to play shortly.

According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, Tagovailoa is set to practice on Wednesday and should make his next start against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 8:

"Many believe he shouldn’t play football again, but Tua Tagovailoa has decided, conclusively, to continue his playing career — and the Miami Dolphins are down with their quarterback’s program.

The NFL said last week that it will defer to independent and team doctors and will not step in to prevent Tagovailoa from playing. Head coach Mike McDaniel, who has a close relationship with his quarterback, shared with his team that Tua’s practice window opens up Wednesday, and the quarterback is expected to practice. As long as there are no setbacks, the hope is for Tagovailoa to play in their Week 8 game against the Arizona Cardinals."

According to The Athletic report, Tagovailoa has not recently dealt with lingering symptoms from the concussion.

The Dolphins started the season 1-0 with Tagovailoa under center. Since the concussion, Miami has a 1-3 record. The 2-3 Dolphins will play the 3-3 Indianapolis Colts on Sunday in Week 7.

Tagovailoa is 40-of-62 passing with two touchdowns and three interceptions this season.
