Trent Richardson, once regarded as one of the most promising running backs to enter the NFL, has faced a challenging journey since his days as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft.

Richardson, who starred at Alabama and played a key role in winning two national championships, was drafted by the Cleveland Browns with high expectations. His college career was nothing short of dominant, rushing for 1,679 yards and 21 touchdowns in his junior season, earning the Doak Walker Award and finishing third in the Heisman Trophy voting.

However, Richardson's NFL career didn't pan out as expected.

After a strong rookie season with the Browns, his performance faltered, and he struggled to find consistency. He was traded to the Indianapolis Colts just 17 games into his career, but his difficulties continued.

Now, years removed from the NFL, Richardson opened up about his personal struggles on “ The Pivot Podcast ”, sharing a heartbreaking revelation about how his children have been his anchor through his toughest times.

"What kept me strong was my kids," Richardson said. "If I didn't have them around bro, I'd be gone."

Richardson's candid admission highlights the emotional and mental challenges he’s faced since leaving the NFL.

Richardson, who has been open about his financial and personal difficulties, explained further how his children have given him purpose.

"Those kids do so much justice for me," he added. "To see my child as a National Honor Society student, my kids are going to graduate this year."

Despite his NFL career not living up to expectations, Richardson’s focus has shifted to being a father, and he credits his children with helping him stay grounded. His story serves as a reminder of the challenges many former athletes face when their professional careers don’t unfold as planned.
