Gary Danielson has spent plenty of time in SEC country in recent years and has since moved on to calling Big Ten games this season.

The Big Ten has become one of the most fascinating conferences in the country on the heels of Michigan football's 2023-2024 national championship with the addition of Pac-12 powers USC, Oregon, UCLA and Washington.

On Saturday, Danielson was on the call in a familiar part of the country as he worked the Michigan at Illinois game as a color commentator alongside Brad Nessler.

Danielson watched as Michigan and Illinois engaged in a first quarter pitcher's duel with Michigan's vaunted front four getting after Illinois QB Luke Altmeyer, himself a transfer from SEC country.

Danielson called the Wolverines' front four of Mason Graham, Kenneth Grant, Josaiah Stewart and Derrick Moore the best front four in the country during the broadcast.

He added that Michigan defensive coordinator Wink Martindale, a former NFL assistant, has big NFL hopes for Stewart, the former Coastal Carolina defensive end/rush linebacker hybrid who has put up Pro Football Focus grades superior to every other player at his position in college football so far in 2024.

The Wolverines' offense continued to be its Achilles Heel in the first quarter as new starting quarterback Jack Tuttle completed just 3 of 6 passes for 11 yards with Illinois leading 3-0 at the conclusion of the quarter.
