College Football Program Draws Embarrassing Crowd For Homecoming Game

The San Jose State Spartans have put together a solid start to the 2024 college football season, notching a 4-2 record before their homecoming matchup against the Wyoming Cowboys on Saturday afternoon.

Unfortunately for the program, fan support for the team was sparse during this Mountain West Conference matchup.

Announced attendance at CEFCU Stadium is 17,101 — but pregame images show a much different story.

Wyoming beat writer Alex Taylor posted a video of the stadium 14 minutes before kickoff, and there were almost no fans in the CEFCU Stadium stands.

On Thursday, San Jose State athletic director Jeff Konya expressed optimism about fan attendance for the remainder of the 2024 college football season.

"The next four games, including homecoming [with] Wyoming, are trending better than the previous three that have been played. So I would anticipate there is going to be more attendance, more than 17,000, for the remaining four home games," Konya said, via Inside the Spartans.

San Jose State raised ticket prices before the 2024 season. Adult general admission is now $30.

"We needed to figure out how to provide a ticket solution that would not be such a shock on the checkbook but at the same time allow us to start incrementally becoming more like our peers in terms of the game day revenue," Konya said

Despite this sparse home crowd, the Spartans lead the Cowboys 17-7 heading into the fourth quarter. San Jose State quarterback Walker Eget has 272 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions on 15/30 passing with just over two minutes remaining in the third.
