Cheerleaders Get Involved After Dangerous Incident in Texas-Georgia

Saturday's highly anticipated Texas Longhorns vs. Georgia Bulldogs matchup was interrupted by a dangerous fan incident with three minutes remaining in the third quarter.

Trailing 23-8, Texas defensive back Jahdae Barron intercepted a Carson Beck pass along the left sideline, setting up the Longhorns in prime scoring position. However, the play was initially nullified by a defensive pass interference penalty, despite hand fighting from both players.

In apparent retaliation to the call, the Texas student section began raining trash, including hundreds of bottles, onto the field of play. The development even prompted Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian to walk across the field to gesture at the fans to stop.

"This is unfortunate," play-by-play man Chris Fowler said on the ABC broadcast. "This is going to delay the game."

In an effort to expedite the cleanup in the end zone, dozens of University of Texas staffers and security, as well as the cheerleading squad, had to get involved with picking up the trash.

"Our staff and our cheerleaders saved us a penalty. TERRIBLE penalty call but we can’t hurt our own team as fans," someone in attendance wrote on X .

"Positive note, cheerleaders and coaches all runs on to the field and help clean up. No one waiting for someone else to clean up the mess. Good look for cheerleaders and staff," another fan added .

After the delay of the game, officials decided to overturn the polarizing pass interference call. Two plays later, Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers found Jaydon Blue for a 17-yard touchdown pass to close their deficit to 23-15.

The score lowered Georgia's win probability from 93.5% to 72%, according to ESPN.

The fact an unsportsmanlike penalty wasn't called has set up a dangerous situation, this officiating crew should be suspended for their incompetence.

SMFH Somebody tell Texas that emulating Tennessee isn't a good look, especially your first year in the SEC. Speaking of things that aren't a good look, the cheerleader uniforms are not flattering. Not sure if it's normal for the brunette cheerleader pictured to always have a big camel toe or if the bottoms and the chaps contribute to that. **After looking at some additional photos of Texas cheerleaders online wearing the same uniform, it appears the uniform does contribute significantly to this.
