Steve Sarkisian’s Plea To Angry Fans During Texas-Georgia

Week 8 of the 2024 college football season brought us one of the most highly-anticipated matches of the year as the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs traveled to Austin to face the No. 1 Texas Longhorns for the first time as SEC foes.

The Longhorns struggled to get things going in the first half, failing to score any points. Coach Steve Sarkisian even elected to bring in backup quarterback Arch Manning with hopes of finding something on offense. He didn't.

But in the third quarter, with Ewers back in, Texas made it a game, decreasing its 23-0 deficit to just eight points.

The Longhorns got to this point after a controversial call that the officials made before changing the ruling on the field.

On third-and-ten with the Bulldogs on offense up 23-8, UGA quarterback Carson Beck threw an interception to Texas cornerback Jahdae Barron, who returned it to the Georgia nine-yard line. However, the officials threw a flag for a defensive holding on Barron, initially giving the ball back to the Dawgs.

After the call was made, the Longhorns' student section showed its displeasure with it by throwing debris onto the field. This caused Sarkisian to make his way toward the fans, telling them to stop their nonsense with both hands up.

After a few minutes of delay to clear the field, the officials changed their decision on the penalty, giving the ball back to the Longhorns, who proceeded to score. In the end, the angry fans got exactly what they wanted.

The Longhorns entered the game against Georgia as one of the only undefeated teams remaining in all of college football. They have already beaten two ranked teams in the Michigan Wolverines and the Oklahoma Sooners, but the Bulldogs are their toughest test yet.
