The highly-anticipated Texas-Georgia showdown in Week 8 had everything you could possibly want. Arch Manning entered for Quinn Ewers before being taken out shortly after.

Georgia held a 23-0 lead at halftime and won the game 30-15, and Kirby Smart even blasted the officials and took a dig at ESPN after the game.

Perhaps the most notable storyline was the controversial decision by the officials. In the third quarter, Carson Beck threw an interception that ended up being called back due to a defensive pass interference ruling .

After the turn of events, Texas fans littered the field with bottles and debris, and Texas was assessed a delay of game penalty as a result.

After the game came to an end, the SEC released a lengthy statement on the decision.

"With 3:12 to play in the third quarter of the Georgia at Texas game, Texas intercepted a pass at the Texas 46-yard line and returned it to the Texas 9 yard line. Texas was flagged for committing defensive pass interference on the play which resulted in Georgia maintaining the ball with a first down," the statement read.

"The game officials gathered to discuss the play, which is permitted to ensure the proper penalty is enforced, at which time the calling official reported that he erred, and a foul should not have been called for defensive pass interference," the statement continued. "Consequently, Texas was awarded the ball at the Texas 9 yard line."

"While the original evaluation and assessment of the penalty was not properly executed, it is unacceptable to have debris thrown on the field at any time. The disruption of the game due to debris being thrown onto the field will be reviewed by the Conference office related to SEC sportsmanship policies and procedures," the statement concluded.

It will be interesting to see if the SEC will hand down any discipline in relation to the incident.

However, while the SEC did acknowledge that the "original evaluation and assessment of the penalty was not properly executed," the particular issue was not addressed, which certainly won't sit well with fans.

All in all, it was quite the debacle in Austin for the most anticipated game of the weekend.
