Quinn Ewers Issues Telling Postgame Comments After Texas-Georgia

Quinn Ewers and the No. 1 Texas Longhorns were stunned in Week 8, suffering a 30-15 loss to the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs.

Ewers and company struggled right out of the gate, mainly because of the Bulldogs' feisty defensive unit, headed by Jalon Walker and Mykel Williams.

Walker finished the game with three sacks, three tackles for loss and eight total tackles. Williams ended his night with two sacks, two tackles for loss and three total tackles.

Seven sacks, 10 tackles for loss, and six pass deflections from one team is usually unheard of, but that's exactly what the Bulldogs needed to take down the No. 1 team in the nation.

Following the matchup, Ewers spoke to the media, sharing his thoughts on the issue Texas ran into early in the game. The Bulldogs sent pressure toward Ewers and the Longhorns' offensive line, which shook up Texas early on.

While Texas clawed back from a 23-0 deficit, scoring 15 points in the second half, Ewers doesn't believe in the moral victory.

"We didn't start the way that we obviously wanted to, and playing catch up is tough for an offense," Ewers said. "I think we stayed poised and composed throughout the entire game... I feel like there were moments where we had, either we scored or our defense got a stop that just kept us in it, which is cool to see, but we definitely did not play our game today."

Ewers also spoke on the Texas coaching staff's decision to bench him late in the second half. With about four minutes left in the second quarter, Ewers was benched for Arch Manning.

Head coach Steve Sarkisian mentioned that it was simply an attempt to get Ewers back in the game mentally. When asked if it helped, Ewers mentioned that it was actually beneficial, but it was weird to be benched and then go back into the game.

"It seemed like I did," Ewers said. "I came out after the second half and put a couple of good drives together, but it's definitely a weird position to be in."

Ewers finished the game with two touchdowns and 211 yards, completing 25-of-43 pass attempts. While he struggled in the first half, Ewers helped Texas fight for the lead in the second.

It was a hard-fought battle that gave Texas its first loss of the season. After the Week 8 contest, they fell to 6-1 on the year.

The Longhorns will have a chance to bounce back against another worthy SEC opponent in Week 9 when they take on the Vanderbilt Commodores.
